STEM at Arches Academy
In Utah, most public elementary and middle schools limit the introduction of STEM learning to the basic skills. Classes such as introductory computer programming are unavailable until 9th grade! Other STEM concepts like 3D printing likely not an option. That is not the case at Arches Academy!
As part of STEM education at Arches Academy we cover many subjects and make them available to students without having to wait until high school. Below is an example of subjects:
Keyboarding
Internet safety
Effective use of search engines for researching, presenting, and creativity
Computer hardware concepts, hands-on learning
Programming/Coding, scratch
Game development with Unity, Blender, C#
Digital art/animation
3D printing, Tinkercad
Lab equipped for Space Camp with simulated missions

Surprising facts:
In Utah, 34% of high schools don’t offer an elementary computer science course!
In 2018, there were 4,565 open computer jobs and only 1,228 college students graduating with a degree in computer science.
The average salary of a computer occupation in Utah is $85,899 compared to the state average salary of $47,920.
Only 16% of Utah schools have AP Computer Science Programs. There are fewer AP exams taken in computer science than in any other STEM subject area.
