STEM at Arches Academy
At Arches Academy, we are consistently growing our STEM program each year. We teach a variety of topics with hands-on learning and use our STEM resources with each grade, beginning as young as preschool. Classes such as introductory computer programming are introduced to our elementary classes and are expanded as they grow!
-3D Printing and other forms of digital art/learning are concepts that many kids don't have the opportunity of experiencing until much later in their learning careers. We offer exposure to this STEM activity early on and dive deeper into the software and capabilities with our middle school students.
As part of STEM education at Arches Academy, we cover many subjects and make them available to students without having to wait until high school. Below is an example of subjects:
Programming/Coding, scratch
Keyboarding
Game development with Unity, Blender, C#
Internet safety
Robotics
Effective use of search engines for researching, presenting, and creativity
Computer hardware concepts, hands-on learning
Digital art/animation
3D printing, Tinkercad
Lab equipped for Space Simulations
Surprising facts:
In Utah, 34% of high schools don’t offer an elementary computer science course!
In 2018, there were 4,565 open computer jobs, and only 1,228 college students graduated with a degree in computer science.
The average salary of a computer occupation in Utah is $85,899 compared to the state average salary of $47,920.
Only 16% of Utah schools have AP Computer Science Programs. There are fewer AP exams taken in computer science than in any other STEM subject area.
